Mustangs

This limited edition print is of an original
oil painting that was done in 1986.

My world of horses encompasses all breeds and types and activities,
but the West and the wild horses who roam that big country have
always been of special interest to me. Some years ago I wrote and
illustrated a book called Wild Horses Running for which I did a
lot of research. I have also traveled extensively throughout
the West and have a pretty good feel of that country.

This painting represents the plight of the wild horses. Three
mustangs are bunched together on a barren slope - their last
stand. The land reaches way back into the horizon without
another living thing in sight. The sky overhead is moody
gray, but a splash of blue and the foal crowding up
against its mother symbolize hope for the future.
